I AM READY!

Last year at Christmas, I was talking with my cousin about needing to get serious about getting healthy.  She said to me, "Katy, it will never be any easier than it is TODAY."  That just really hit me in my gut because I knew it to be true. It only gets harder everyday I don't exercise self-control and workout.   I was continuing to gain weight and losing any semblance of self-control.  I just had to decide to stop the downward cycle and get up and get healthy and take control.  I started out really strong and cut out the sugars and started working out.  I was getting the kids involved and we started doing the 'Presidents Challenge' and exercising everyday in school.  One day I thought I would show them how to do mountain climbers in jeans that were too tight (NOT a good idea!), and I injured my knee.  It hurt really bad for months and prevented me from continuing my workouts.  I wish I had continued to workout and just modified my workouts, but I quit all together and started eating unhealthy again.  I put back on the 10 lbs I had lost and 5 more for good measure!  Ugh!  It is a life long struggle and has to be a lifestyle of fitness in order to maintain success.

I have since started P90X and am down 21 lbs.  Are you ready to make a change?  Can I say to you what my cousin said to me?....  "My dear sweet friends, It will NEVER be easier than it is Today."  Come join me,  I would LOVE to be an encouragement to you and help you accomplish your goals.  http://www.beachbodycoach.com/KATYFP

Looking for Color

When my family and I moved to the desert of New Mexico I felt like my insides where withered just like the grass.  I am from the East Coast where green is abundant and being in nature has always played a big part in how I feel about life.  I was depressed by all the browns, no green or trees anywhere.  If I wanted to go for a walk or run, I was terrified that I would come upon a rattlesnake!  I felt trapped inside; it was a dark time for me.

One day I spoke to my mother about it all, and she gave the best advice that helps me in all aspects of my life even to this day.  She said, "Katy, you have to LOOK for the color my dear.  It might be hard to find, but if you look you'll see it."  Well, I started to really LOOK and I did start to find some color and  lots of shades of gold.  Isn't it funny.............. when we intentionally look for blessings our browns turn to gold?

If you need some encouragement in turning your browns to gold, please join me and learn to EnjoyYourMoments

How Many Calories Should You Eat?

Loosing weight is a number game!  Count your calories, Loose the weight!  Here is what I have learned..

Step 1:  Your current body weight X 10 = RMR ( Resting Metobolic Rate)

Step 2:  Do the math for your DAB (Daily Activity Burn)

              Sedentary                          RMR x 10% = DAB
              Moderately Active             RMR x 20% = DAB
              Very Active                       RMR x 30% = DAB

Step 3: Add the calories burned from your workout.  This will very from program to program, but a good                        hard workout where you sweat for 30mins. will on average burn about 500 calories.  Daily Burn (DB)

Step 4: Subtract about 500 calories ( a deficit of 500 calories a day will result in a loss of one pound a week)

So, for instance...
Weight 146 x 10 = 1460= RMR

1460 x 30% =   438= DAB

1460 + 438 = 1898

1898 + 500(DB) = 2398 calories

In order to loose weight, I need to cut out 500 calories a day which brings my total calories to 1898 per day.
That is a lot of healthy food and I shouldn't be hungry at all!   If we know what is in our budget it is so much easier to stay within the limits.

The Beginning

Late in the summer of 2012 I found myself very depressed, tired with my life, in lots of pain from bad knees and overweight.  I wasn't spending the time I should in my Bible, with my kids and husband, or eating right and working out.  A friend of mine came along side me and suggested I start working out with her.  We committed to doing some kind of workout 5 days a week and held each other accountable.  I also felt convicted that I should spend as much time in my Bible as I did working out.  I began feeling better about my life and started seeing results in every area.  I am enjoying my husband and children, enjoying being with myself in times of quiet, enjoying God and His wonderful gift of grace in my life, and enjoying being fit and strong without the pain that plagued me last year.
In November, my husband bought me P90X because I really wanted to take my fitness to the next level.  I am in my 39th year of life and I really want to be really strong and fit for once in my life. I have lost 21 lbs. and over 16 inches off my body.  When I started this journey, I had a swollen and very sore knee.  I wasn't able to bend it more than 90 degrees.  I have been careful with it and started out using knee braces, and I am now able to bend it all the way and am no longer in pain.  Muscle heals!!  I have been so inspired by my dear friend's encouragement that I really wanted to offer that to others.  Being a Coach for BeachBody seemed like the perfect opportunity.  I am so honored to be able to encourage other women to truly ENJOY THEIR MOMENTS.  I hope you will join me and finding your healthiest self. http://www.beachbodycoach.com/KATYFP
